Celebrating Local Business Success in Anne Arundel County

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – During the week of October 20-24, 2025, the Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation (AAEDC) and County Executive Stuart Pittman honored the diverse economic contributions of local enterprises as part of Business Appreciation Week (BAW). Continuing their tradition, AAEDC visited 76 businesses this year, following visits to over 70 businesses in both 2023 and 2024.

Recognizing the Backbone of the Community

“Small businesses are the heart of our economy and communities,” expressed County Executive Pittman. “Business Appreciation Week allows us to acknowledge the impact of the more than 66,000 diverse businesses that thrive in Anne Arundel County.”

Engaging with Local Enterprises

Throughout the week, over 50 ambassadors, including County Executive Pittman, AAEDC staff, and representatives from 16 county organizations, visited businesses to express gratitude and share insights. Each visit featured discussions on the business’s journey, achievements, challenges, and available county resources, culminating in the presentation of an official citation from County Executive Pittman.

Fostering Growth and Development

“While we engage with local businesses year-round, Business Appreciation Week is unique due to its scale,” stated AAEDC President and CEO Amy Gowan. “It’s a focused week where we connect with numerous businesses, celebrate their contributions, and gather feedback to enhance our support programs.”

Diverse Business Landscape

AAEDC’s visits spanned a wide array of sectors, including agriculture, food service, hospitality, and healthcare, representing the county’s 66,000+ businesses. The ownership was diverse, featuring 38 women-owned, 19 minority-owned, six Hispanic-owned, six veteran-owned, and four businesses owned by individuals with disabilities.

Aligning with Statewide Initiatives

This year’s Business Appreciation Week coincided with the Maryland Economic Development Association’s Maryland Economic Development Week, highlighting the positive effects of economic development on local business environments, job creation, and quality of life.
