Stepping Up: Revitalizing a Family Event Business and Exploring New Markets | PRIMENEWSNOW
Singapore’s Leon Exhibition Pte Ltd, a prominent event and exhibition agency, has announced a change in leadership. Shuhui Mai, representing the second generation, is now at the helm.
Shuhui Mai’s entry into the family business was unexpected. Her career had flourished in a different field, far from the bustling world of exhibitions and events. However, a pivotal crisis in her father’s company prompted her return, marking a significant personal decision.
New Leadership, Renewed Vision
Under Shuhui’s leadership, LeonEx has transformed from a local entity into a key player across the Asia-Pacific region. Her leadership is characterized by a commitment to innovation, trust-building, and honoring a legacy of resilience.
The Foundation of Determination
Founded in 2009 by Xun Yao Mai, Shuhui’s father, LeonEx began with a simple mission: to improve his family’s life. Like many entrepreneurs, his journey was fraught with challenges.
“Initially a team effort, it soon became my sole responsibility,” he reflects. “When obstacles arose, others left, but I chose to persevere.”
In the competitive world of exhibitions, where precision is key and margins are slim, LeonEx thrived through sheer determination. Yet, its toughest challenge was internal, requiring a complete overhaul.
A Return Driven by Purpose
Before joining LeonEx, Shuhui excelled as a headhunter, working with sectors like banking and finance. Her role honed her skills in understanding organizational dynamics and human resources.
“Joining the family business was never my plan,” she admits. “Recruitment gave me insights into various industries without being directly involved.”
Her decision to return was fueled by a sense of duty, not ambition.
“Witnessing my father’s struggles, I felt compelled to defend his legacy,” she explains. “What began as a protective measure evolved into a meaningful mission.”
