Thunder’s Heart-Pounding Showdown with T-Wolves Ends in 3rd Loss, Still Eyeing 73 Wins | PRIMENEWSNOW
Thunder’s Early Dominance Faces New Challenges
The Oklahoma City Thunder started the season with an impressive 24 wins out of their first 25 games. However, they’ve recently stumbled, losing two of their last three matchups.
Thrilling Defeat Against the Timberwolves
In a nail-biting game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday, the Thunder faced their third loss of the season, ending with a score of 112-107. Despite this setback, their 25-3 record still keeps them on track to potentially match the NBA’s historic 73-win season, though the journey is far from over.
Anthony Edwards was the star for the Timberwolves, securing the win with a decisive 3-pointer in the final 39 seconds. He followed up with a crucial block and steal against MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander during the closing moments.
“I always aim for the win, not just a tie,” Edwards commented post-game. He concluded the night with 26 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks.
Thunder’s Struggle to Maintain Lead
Oklahoma City initially built a 12-point advantage in the first half, but Minnesota remained within reach and took control after the break. The Timberwolves led for most of the second half, though the Thunder nearly turned the tide with a late surge led by Gilgeous-Alexander, who scored 35 points and provided 7 assists.
Overcoming Adversity
Despite the absence of their head coach, Chris Finch, who was ejected early in the game, the Timberwolves maintained their composure. They dominated the boards, outrebounding the Thunder 71-60.
Such games highlight the difficulty of matching the Golden State Warriors’ 73-win record. Achieving even 70 wins requires consistent excellence, something the Thunder struggled with, shooting just 37% from the field and 28.2% from beyond the arc.

Looking Ahead
Gilgeous-Alexander delivered another standout performance, but Jalen Williams struggled, shooting 6-of-16 for 17 points and committing four turnovers. Chet Holmgren was also limited to 14 points and 5 rebounds. The Timberwolves, well-rested, capitalized on the Thunder’s fatigue from a back-to-back schedule.
Next, the Thunder will enjoy a two-day break before facing the Memphis Grizzlies, who hold a 13-14 record, followed by consecutive games against the San Antonio Spurs.
