Maryland Unveils Innovative Platform with $10 Million Boost for Local Businesses | PRIMENEWSNOW
On Wednesday, Maryland unveiled a new digital tool designed to streamline access to vital resources for local business owners, as announced by Governor Wes Moore. This initiative, known as the Maryland Community Business Compass, was crafted by the Maryland State Innovation Team to help entrepreneurs discover funding opportunities through an online platform.
The Maryland Community Business Compass serves as a dynamic resource for entrepreneurs, particularly those in the food and childcare sectors. It provides insights into market opportunities, existing service locations, and local economic trends.
Additionally, users can find information on local business support entities, such as economic development organizations and small business development centers, aiding in business planning, permitting, and licensing.
The platform is also intended to guide future investments from the state and philanthropic sources into communities facing high poverty levels.
A $10 million funding initiative was revealed to assist fresh food retailers and childcare providers. This will be facilitated through the Child Care Capital Support Revolving Loan Fund and the NourishMD Grant program.
The Child Care Capital Support Revolving Loan Fund offers zero-interest loans to childcare providers for acquiring, expanding, or enhancing facilities, especially in underserved or rural areas. More details can be found here.
Starting January 2026, eligible fresh food retailers can apply for the NourishMD Grant program, which provides up to $150,000 in grants to support capital needs for stabilization or expansion in areas with limited access to fresh food.
